Basic Rescue Training and Equipment Package
The Problem
"The requirement to provide a means of rescue is perhaps the most difficult for many employers to comply with," according to Jim Johnson, D2000's CEO. "The cost and logistics can really turn people off. The result is that employers often rely on the local fire department." The problem is that many fire departments are not trained or equipped to provide these, and even the ones who are, may not be willing to stretch their limited resources to provide these services.
An Answer
D2000 Safety has developed a systematic solution that combines three days of training and equipment into one cost-effective package. This approach is described in this brochure.
How Cost-Effective?
Training and equipment for a four to six person rescue team can be obtained for $10,000 (plus instructor travel). If you already have some of the equipment, the cost will be less. A list of the basic equipment can be found below.
Following this training, your team will be able to perform basic confined space rescues. Once the team is trained to this basic level, they will be able to conduct practice rescues as required by the regulations.
As the team’s skills improve, so will their ability to perform more complicated rescues. In addition, the skills and equipment can also be used to retrieve patients from catwalks, scaffolding, roofs and other locations.
What's a Basic Rescue?
A basic rescue is one with the following characteristics:
- The patient is within 25 to 35 feet of the space opening and can be seen from the space opening.
- Hazards are eliminated or controlled before rescuers enter the space.
- There is sufficient room within the confined space to accommodate two (or more) rescuers plus the patient.
- The space opening is within 25 to 35 feet of the ground level.
- The space configuration presents a minimal possibility of entanglement.
These characteristics are found in the majority of permit spaces in many industrial and municipal facilities.
